As this year draws to a close, we take a look back at the headlines of 2017, review the exciting changes here at 33 Mile Radius, and look forward to growing your water damage business in 2018.
The Top Headlines of 2017Natural disasters were a major part of 2017. Harvey and Irma caused hundreds of billions in devastation and left hundreds dead and millions of people affected. The California wildfires have destroyed hundreds of thousands of acres, leaving 45 dead and causing approximately $10 billion in damage to date.
In terms of marketing, the biggest headlines are that HomeAdvisor acquired Angie’s List and Google launched their Local Services ads. It’s hard to predict what this will mean for the industry, but you should definitely keep these changes in mind when planning your marketing strategy for 2018.
Changes To Our Lead Generation Platform2017 has been an exciting year here at 33 Mile Radius. Based feedback from our partners, we launched a new vertical as well as made improvements to our lead generation platform.
- Fire Damage Leads: Just like all of our other leads, our fire damage leads are live and exclusive and include all of the same great features.
- Mobile Friendly Dashboard: It’s now easier to view calls, listen to recordings, and update notes on your mobile phone. Review our training video to learn how to use the new dashboard.
- Fixed Pricing On Leads: You no longer need to bid or worry about being knocked out of rotation. While most county prices will remain the same, a few areas will change.

Growing Your Water Damage Business In 2018As 2017 comes to a close, it’s important to review your business plan, set goals for the future, and have a process in place to reach them. Our friend Tom Cline from Violand Management Associates has some great ideas on creating a business plan that will help you achieve success in 2018.
You should also review your marketing strategy to ensure you are using the right tools to get in front of your customers. A good local search engine optimization strategy is key because most customers turn to search engines in most water damage emergencies.
Reviews are also important because they build confidence and trust with customers, increase visibility to your company, and are a free source of advertising. If you haven’t already, you definitely need to implement a process for getting more reviews.

The same goes for getting more referrals. They have a level of authenticity that is unachievable with traditional marketing and advertising because there is no sales pitch or agenda. Plus, a referral customer is four times more likely to buy.
Phone calls are the life’s blood of most disaster mitigation businesses and excellent phone skills are critical to landing the job. Make sure you know how to answer phone calls effectively, avoid giving too much information, and implement an effective process with your entire team so you are converting more calls into jobs.
The 5 Minute AuditMake sure you start 2018 off right by taking five minutes to audit your website and social channels. It’s easy to take your website for granted, but give it a quick once-over. You can make larger changes later, but make sure you do the following now:
- Review and update services list
- Use TEL tags with your phone number
- Remove outdated content
- Test links to ensure they all work
TEL tags allow users on mobile devices to call you directly by tapping the link, saving time and preventing dialing errors.
Example TEL Tag Code:
Consistency is a key factor in search engine optimization, so ensure the following are updated and identical across your websites and all social channels:
- Business Name
- Phone Number
- Street Address
- Business Hours
We wish you a merry whatever and great success in 2018. Hopefully it’s a safe and happy year for everyone, but a burst pipe or sewage backup or two wouldn’t hurt either.
